Schoolchildren in Ekaterinburg granted complimentary travel on public transportation, as revealed by Denis Pasler.
In a significant move towards improving public transport and road safety, Denis Pasler, the Governor of Sverdlovsk Oblast, has announced ongoing efforts across all municipalities in the region. One of the key focus areas is the development and enhancement of school access roads, with over 170 kilometers set to be updated by the start of the academic year.
Yekaterinburg, the region's largest city, is set to make history as it will become the first and only city in Russia where all schoolchildren can travel free of charge on public transport from September 1, 20XX. This initiative, aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of children, extends to surface public transport, with no age restrictions.
Denis Pasler has emphasised the importance of school bus conditions, road crossings, and lighting as key areas of focus. In the metro, a monthly pass for students will cost 200 rubles.
However, details about the duration and scope of these transportation measures beyond the start of the academic year remain unclear. The organizational aspects of free schoolchildren's travel, such as intermunicipal tram operation and organized group travel from other regional cities, have been tasked to Alexei Orlov, the head of Yekaterinburg.
To enjoy this benefit, students will need to present a school certificate or an electronic student card. It's worth noting that Denis Pasler has not mentioned any similar measures being implemented in other cities or regions of Russia.
The region is also investing in the purchase of vehicles and the repair of roads as part of these efforts. The "Regional Newspaper" has reported that discounted travel for schoolchildren and students will resume from September 1 on the Sverdlovsk Magistral.
This groundbreaking initiative by Denis Pasler underscores the commitment to the well-being and education of the region's youth, setting a promising precedent for future transportation policies.
