Paige Bueckers Breaks Rookie Scoring Record in Historic Performance

Paige Bueckers, the dynamic rookie guard of the Dallas Wings, has etched her name in the WNBA record books with a remarkable 44-point performance in a game played in Cologne, Germany. This historic night not only set a new rookie scoring record but also marked the most points scored in any WNBA game this season.

Bueckers' breakout game was more than just a personal achievement. Her teammates, such as Luisa Geiselsöder, have acknowledged that it was a testament to her leadership and teamwork. Bueckers credited her teammates for helping her get open during her historic night.

With this performance, Bueckers has entered the conversation for All-WNBA honours, joining the likes of Candace Parker, Breanna Stewart, and Caitlin Clark as rookies to receive such recognition. Interestingly, Clark was the only rookie to make the All-WNBA First Team in 2024, and she was also voted captain of the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game after receiving the most fan votes.

Bueckers' 44 points were achieved while shooting an astonishing 80% from the field, tying the franchise record for most field goals made in a game with 17. She was unstoppable, making 17-of-21 field goal attempts, 4-of-4 from 3-point range, and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Head coach Chris Koclanes praised Bueckers' ability to dictate tempo and her composure as a floor leader. Despite the Wings being eliminated from playoff contention, Bueckers emphasized the importance of team pride. Geiselsöder pointed to the team's progress despite the loss, particularly their improved defensive performance.

Bueckers currently ranks fifth in scoring, ninth in assists, and fourth in steals in the WNBA. Her consistent productivity all season has seen her average 19.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in 34 minutes per game.

The WNBA has also seen growth off the court, with the league setting a new regular-season attendance record. This is a testament to the increasing popularity and success of the WNBA.

As the regular season winds down, the Wings' coach, Chris Koclanes, noted the importance of learning from losses. With Bueckers' exceptional performance and the team's progress, fans can look forward to an exciting future for the Dallas Wings.
